Building rootstock collective community of developers and users in Ghana

GH COMMUNITY BUILDING DAO aims to establish a thriving, long-lasting Ghanaian community of developers, business owners, and Rootstock (RSK) users. Through education, hands-on training, and real-world projects, the initiative will connect Rootstock’s Bitcoin-secured smart contract technology to practical Web3 adoption across West Africa.

Ghana ranks among the top 10 African countries for crypto adoption (Chainalysis 2023). With its youthful, tech-driven population and growing blockchain interest, this project aims to position Rootstock as a key player in Ghana’s Web3 ecosystem — driving innovation, inclusion, and local utility.

This proposal layout is hard to read. It seems this is the resubmitted proposal because the previous grant amount listed onchain and in the forum did not match, so why was the milestone structure changed from three milestones to two, each at 6K?

I appreciate your feedback.
Yes, this is a resubmitted version of the proposal to rectify the previous inconsistency between the amounts of on-chain and forum grants. To make tracking easier, improve accountability, and ensure that deliverables are in line with the updated project scope, the structure of the milestones was changed from three to two, with each milestone costing $6,000. We will also make the layout easier to read; we value your feedback.

Hi @Oluman! Thanks for the proposal.

In addition to Curia’s feedback on making the proposal easier to read, we would suggest that you start small, say Milestone 1 to be a pilot that only focuses on hosting 1 meetup with a minimum budget (like $1,000 - 1,500) to prove your capability and the demand and expand it from there.

@Tane Thank you for the valuable feedback. We appreciate the suggestion to start small. However, based on our experience and the evolving dynamics of the Web3 ecosystem, a single pilot event may not generate enough momentum to validate real demand or community traction. Multiple meetups and workshops create continuous visibility, build trust, and attract consistent participation — which are essential for meaningful adoption and sustainability. That said, we’ll ensure our milestones are well-structured, realistic, and demonstrate measurable impact.

Hello @Oluman we appreciate your proposal and can see that your team is passionate about Web3. I have a couple of questions:

  1. What draws your team specifically to Rootstock?
  2. Will the content you plan to produce introduce new perspectives about Rootstock, or is the goal primarily to reach a different audience with existing ideas?
  3. You plan to establish a “Rootstock Ghana Community DAO” — can you please elaborate on the purpose, structure, and intended governance model for this DAO?

The scope of your proposal is very ambitious. It would be helpful to include some practical and measurable KPIs for each milestone. Also, please note that the initial request for funding applies only to Milestone 1. Delegates will then review progress against the KPIs before considering funding for Milestone 2.

Lastly, since you aren’t considering a pilot, as suggested by @Tane, I’d recommend breaking the milestones down further so the scope is smaller and more manageable. This also aligns with common grant structure practices, where proposals often include at least four well-defined milestones.

Hi @Oluman , thank you for this proposal; your passion for building a Rootstock community in Ghana is clear. But the current scope seems very large for a start. While I understand your point that one meetup might not be enough, @404Gov ‘s suggestion of breaking the project into smaller, more defined milestones is the perfect middle ground. Success in a focused first step makes it much easier to approve future funding. I look forward to seeing you answer other questions the delegates have posted and a a revised proposal with these more granular steps.

Thanks @404Gov for the thoughtful feedback — really appreciate the detailed points.

Why Rootstock? Rootstock is appealing to us because it combines the security of Bitcoin with the flexibility of an EVM. This makes it ideal for African developers who are already using Ethereum tools but want to build on Bitcoin. Content Focus: In addition to the materials that already exist, our objective is to localize Rootstock education from a fresh point of view and demonstrate how it can power Ghana-specific real-world use cases like remittances, DeFi, and microfinance solutions. Rootstock Ghana DAO: The DAO will coordinate community activities, developer support, and local partnerships. It’ll start with a small core team and expand through transparent, community-based governance (multisig + voting).

KPIs & Milestones: We’ll refine these for clarity — e.g., 1 Rootstock Meetup (50+ attendees), 3 educational articles, 1 video, and onboarding 30+ members to our community channels. We’ll also restructure the scope into smaller, manageable milestones in line with best grant practices.

Thanks again — this feedback helps us strengthen the proposal while keeping the bigger vision intact.

@Eren_DAOplomats Thank you for the thoughtful feedback. We agree that starting with smaller, well-defined milestones is a practical path forward. Our goal is to build steady, measurable progress while working closely with delegates and the wider Rootstock community. Together, we can lay a strong foundation for a thriving Rootstock ecosystem in Ghana. Appreciate your feedback and hope to internalized them into our process.

I think this is in the right path.

I’d suggest starting as small as possible, and increase scope as we all gain confidence and a build a track record.

Imagine a hypothetical case/example:
You request ~$1000 for a half-day event/workshop.
You gather 50+ attendees, with 2-3 presentations or hands-on sessions, well organized, looking tidy, with 2 banners, a networking coffee-break. Participants onboard Rootstock. All documented with pictures and metrics.
This would have everyone involved (on your side and our side) more confident for the next initiatives.
As we gain confidence, funding and initiatives can grow in scope, like training courses, full-day event with tshirt and giveaways, hackathon, partnerships, content creation, ambassador program, etc.

Thanks @Oluman for your consideration and we completely agree with what @ChronoTrigger has suggested. Once you complete the first step with clear track record and report as you expect, you will likely receive support for the coming grant requests.

@ChronoTrigger @Tane Appreciate your thoughtful comments and support. We deeply appreciate the confidence shown in our initiative. We will continue to work hard to make a difference in this initial phase in a way that can be measured and to help the Rootstock ecosystem grow in Ghana and the rest of Africa.

Sounds good. And to build on what @ChronoTrigger suggested about starting with a very small scope, please also provide line items for your expenses. E.g, if you are spending 1k for a workshop, please list out what expenses are included in that budget.

Thanks for the proposal. I can see that Rootstock has a real opportunity to increase the number of developers building on the platform. Also, 500 new on chain users is a meaningful number for a small program.

However, I think the proposal could be clearer on milestones and execution. 500 new users could become a vanity metric if there isn’t a plan for retention. What follow up activities will ensure these users stay engaged and active onchain?

For me $12,000 budget isn’t very large, it would be helpful to see a detailed breakdown like how much is allocated to marketing, outreach, grants, trainer fees, and any buffer?

Also could you provide a clear budget breakdown for the $12,000? And how exactly will the 500 new users be measured , new wallets, transactions, app activity?

What followup activities are planned to keep them engaged?

To be completely honest and clear from our side, we would not support the milestone 1 proposal if the budget ask is cut down to a much lower level as we asked in the previous comments.
